Hello, everyone.
Anthony could use a lot of prayers. He started at ReMed, the brain injury program, on Tuesday (the 25th) and was supposed to remain there for 3-4 months. However, today, seemingly overwhelmed, he became unresponsive and stubborn. He wanted to wheel up and down the street and refused to go back to the ReMed house. For a while, he wouldn't eat or drink, either. The staff were concerned about his safety and so were obliged to remain with him as he went up and down the street, which I'm sure agitated him more. I'd never quite seen him like this. He even refused to talk to me, both on the phone and in person. The decision was to move him to Mercy hospital's brain injury rehab floor (South Side's rehab program moved to Mercy, so the staff should be mostly the same as what we knew back when he was on the brain injury floor at South Side in December) and start him on some meds to help him to cope. The brain injury causes him to feel overwhelmed with new places, people in general, and conversations, and he just wants to be alone and pray (i.e. avoid stretching his brain at all) -- but that won't help him to rejoin his family or society or to be materially productive, which, given his current vocations of husbandhood and fatherhood, are important elements of his life (whether he thinks so or not!). He is back at home now for the next day or two until Mercy is ready for him. The idea is that if he can demonstrate better coping skills and a better handle on his mood, he'll go straight from Mercy back to ReMed. I don't know how I can help him here at home with what he really needs therapy-wise, so I'm hoping that the transition from Mercy to ReMed will be able to happen.
He and I are both at a low point right now. I'm not sure how low God will take us before He'll ease up on the trial, but although I know He knows what He's doing, I am concerned about Anthony, and I'm feeling disheartened.
Thanks so much for your prayers.
God bless,
